The fall and winter holidays land inside about ten weeks, from the end of October to the first of January. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the birthdays that fall in the cold months. They are four different kinds of gathering, and each one asks something different from the room it happens in.
Here is what Pleasant Street Hall does for each of them.
Halloween
Two versions of this come up. One is a costume party for adults. The other is a trick-or-treat night that a church, a school group, or a business puts on for kids.
Indoors changes both of them. There is no rain plan to make, no street to keep children out of, and no dark parking lot to watch. October 31 on the Shore can also sit in the forties, and a costume somebody worked on for three weeks spends an outdoor night under a coat.
For a trick-or-treat night, tables run along the walls and each family or business takes one as a candy station. That is the indoor version of a trunk-or-treat, and it leaves the middle of the floor open for games, a costume contest, or music.
Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving here is a seated dinner, and the seating is the whole problem it solves. The hall holds 100 at tables. Tables and chairs are included in the rental, so a dinner for sixty does not start with a rental order and a truck.
The Friendsgivings and the club dinners usually take a weekend date in November. Thanksgiving Day itself is one date.
Worth knowing before you plan the menu: there is no kitchen prep area in the building. Food comes in cooked, either from a caterer or as covered dishes carried in from home. That rules out roasting the turkey on site and rules nothing else out.
Christmas
The company Christmas party, a family Christmas that has grown past a living room, a cookie exchange, an ornament swap, a choir or a club party.
December is short on dates. Four weekends, the weeknights around them, and New Year’s Eve as a single date that one group gets. Ask early if you have a date in mind, and ask early again if you need a Saturday.
A company party usually wants the sound system and room to move between tables. A cookie exchange wants long tables and good light. The floor plan moves either way.
Winter Birthdays
A birthday in January or February has nowhere outdoors to go, and a house party in the cold months means everybody standing in a kitchen. The hall gives a kids’ party room to run in and a milestone party enough seats for the whole guest list. Showers, birthdays, and graduations all live on the showers and celebrations page.
What the Room Gives You to Decorate Against
Everything permanent in the hall is neutral. Red brick walls, black posts and beams overhead, wide hardwood floors, tall factory windows down one side. Orange and black in October, red and green in December, and both of them sit on that without a fight. There is no house color scheme to work around.
Decor comes in with you. Your rental window includes time to put it up and take it down, so tell us how long you want on the front end and we will build it into the window.
